Kyle Ino is a full time artist of born and raised in Hawaii. He is a fourth generation Japanese American. Through the years he loved the arts of music, Asian brush painting and the ceramic arts. After graduating with his B.A. in Communications from the University of Hawaii, Kyle has been a full time crafter since 1986. He served as a member of the Hawaii Craftsman, Pacific Handcrafters Guild, and Temari Art Center.
Kyle has a flair of Asian influence in his work, like the hand painted gold bamboo, and the Japanese calligraphy. His disciplined attention to detail and precision has maintained his high quality standard throughout the creative process.
His artistic endeavors began in ceramics, then polymer clay, and now art glass. This background in ceramics focused on raku ceramics. Kyle loved the spontaneity and wildly unpredictable nature of the process. Kyle created jewelry, and ikebana flower arranging vases for many years.
Polymer clay was his next passion. Kyle loved the ability to mold and stretch extrusions to form repeating patterns. He loved the mica shift of colors in the metallic clays. Kyle created jewelry and many 3 dimensional art objects in polymer clay. This work in polymer clay encouraged Kyle to take classes at the Ravensdale Polymer Clay Conference. He met many wonderful creative artists who continue to inspire his work.
All this experience in creating wearable jewelry (that women would love) culminated in a very creative use of art glass. The medium of glass as jewelry is ancient. Yet Kyle is able to combine different basic concepts of ceramics and polymer to create new techniques of working glass that are innovative. Without his experience in the techniques of ceramics and polymer clay, this would not have been possible. Since Kyle Ino has not taught these techniques, his work is unique to this collection, which is now offered to you. Enjoy!
